Partner in RenoVisor: we build the renovation decision tools

Climate Media Factory is a partner in RenoVisor, a Horizon Europe research project that helps homeowners, apartment communities and energy cooperatives decide whether and how to renovate their buildings. RenoVisor started on 1 October 2025 and runs until September 2029. It is coordinated by Forschungszentrum Jülich and brings together twelve partners from five countries, funded with €4.8 million from the European Union under grant agreement No 101233874.

Renovation is where European climate policy meets the kitchen table. The technical case is usually clear, the decision is not. Costs are opaque, the payback period is long, the building is someone's home, and in an apartment block every neighbour has a veto. RenoVisor addresses that gap by combining building simulation with social science: three decision tools, one for single-family homes, one for multi-family buildings in shared ownership, and one for energy communities planning at district level. Each combines cost, financing and payback estimates with comfort and climate-resilience information, in language that does not assume an engineering degree.

What Climate Media Factory does in RenoVisor. We develop and build the three decision tools. Within the project's dissemination and communication team, we also produce some audiovisual work. And we lead the project's exploitation: the exploitation strategy, the exploitation plan, and the work of keeping the consortium on the route from research results to products and follow-up funding.

The work builds on decision tools we have delivered before like the Climate Action Strategiser for European cities and regions in the Horizon 2020 project LOCALISED, the Transition Pathways Explorer, and the MacKay Carbon Calculator. In each case the challenge was the one RenoVisor poses: taking a scientifically sound model and making it something a non-specialist can use to explore and reach a decision.

The RenoVisor tools will be tested with more than 10,000 households in Ireland, Spain and the Netherlands.
